Google Layoff: A former employee of Google has revealed on micro blogging site X (old name Twitter) how Google has suddenly fired him from its company. The name of this former Google employee is Alex Cohen, who was working on algorithms for the Gemini AI model. He shared a post on X, in which he wrote, I am very sad to tell that today Google removed me. I was in charge of making the algorithms for Gemini as conscious as possible.

But then suddenly he lost access to Hangouts and Google Drive and then his manager sent him a message that he was fired from the company. He added, “After the complaints surfaced on Twitter today, I suddenly lost access to Hangouts and Google Drive and my manager just messaged me to tell me I was fired.
He further added, “I am getting 12 months severance and after that I will decide what to do next ($2.7 million TC demands). It has been a wonderful journey learning about LLM and AI in the last 5 months!”

Earlier, Perplexity AI CEO Arvind Srinivas had revealed that Google once offered a 300% salary hike to an employee who was part of the ‘Search team’ and had no direct connection with the AI division.
Google had already given a memorandum
This happened when Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that more job cuts are possible because the company needs to build capacity for investment and will have to make difficult choices. Google CEO Sandur Pichai wrote in an internal memo to all Google employees that, “We have ambitious goals, and we will invest in our biggest priorities this year. The reality is that in order to build the capacity for this investment, we need Difficult choices will have to be made.”
This clearly means that Google had earlier given an ultimatum to all its employees to be fired by the company and as part of this process, employee Alex Cohen, who was working on the algorithm for the Gemini AI model, was suddenly fired from his job. Therefore, in the near future it may also be possible that Google may fire some of its other employees as well.
